Our Friend, Jim Zimmer

Published on 6/2/2024

Dear CALI friends, it is with an incredibly heavy heart that I must tell you of the passing of longtime CALI member, Past-President, DAA recipient, avid golfer, and all-around good person, Jim Zimmer.  Jim passed away this morning surrounded by his loving wife Julie and son Brian.

For those of you that knew Jim, you know what a powerful force he was.  He seldom asked one to do something, whether it be to serve on a committee or some other project.  Jim just told you that’s what you’d be doing, and that’s what you would do, and thank him afterward for it!

Jim’s affliction came on suddenly, without notice, on Saturday, May 11, when he and Julie were at a cooking class.  Jim got up and suddenly without warning, simply fell, striking his head.  He had been in the hospital since then.  Please see Jim | CaringBridge for more details.

I have asked the Listserv Committee to allow all comments to be passed on to the membership for the next few days.  In addition, we will be having a tribute to Jim in our next CALI Journal and would invite any of you with fond memories, photos, or thoughts to please share them so we can share them with everyone.  Please email to info@cali-pi.org.

A final thought…In my 62 years, I have lost many friends.  Some with a warning, such as cancer or other terrible ailments, and some suddenly without warning.  I have learned that it makes no difference as to the impact it has, the loss is devastating either way.  The lesson is this: we never know what God has in store for us.  Please make sure the last words you have with someone are loving and respectful.  We never know when it may be their time or ours.

I have not heard about services for Jim yet, but I will absolutely share with you all when I do.  Thank you all, and please take care.
